About Super Bombliss (japan)
Super Bombliss was released for the Game Boy in Japan in 1990, developed by A.I and published by Bullet-Proof Software. It appeared during a period when the handheld was becoming a hub for puzzle games, offering a distinct take on block-matching concepts.
You control the falling arrangement of blocks, which are composed of four smaller squares in various shapes. Your main objective is to clear blocks from the screen by forming complete horizontal lines, similar to other falling block games, but with a key difference: you can rotate and move the entire four-block piece before locking it into place. A signature mechanic is the ability to swap the current piece with a held piece in reserve, allowing for strategic planning. Another is the gradual increase in speed and block complexity as you progress, which demands quicker decisions. The game starts calmly but builds a steady, methodical tension as the playfield fills. It feels like a deliberate test of spatial reasoning under pressure.
