About Suikoden - Tenmei No Chikai (japan)
Suikoden: Tenmei no Chikai came out for the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1989, developed and published by Konami. It was part of that late 80s wave of Japanese RPGs on the NES, arriving before the 16-bit era really took over. You play as a young hero named Juppo, who is the son of a famous warrior. Your father is killed by an evil emperor, setting you on a path of revenge and rebellion. The main goal is to gather the 108 Stars of Destiny, a large cast of characters who will join your cause and help you overthrow the tyrannical government.
You control Juppo from an overhead perspective, exploring towns and the world map screen by screen. Combat is turn based; you manage a party of characters, selecting attacks, magic, or items for each one during encounters. A signature mechanic is the army battles, where you command your recruited forces in large scale strategic conflicts that play out differently from the standard fights. The pacing can feel deliberate, as you are constantly searching for new allies in hidden locations, and the difficulty encourages careful party management and exploration. Playing it feels like building a community from the ground up, where every new recruit makes your base a little more lively and your quest a little more possible.
