About Sugoro Quest - Dice No Senshitachi (japan)
Sugoro Quest: Dice no Senshitachi was a Japan-only release for the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1987, developed by Tose. It arrived during a period when the NES library was diversifying, offering experiences that went beyond the standard platformers and action games that dominated the market at the time.
You control a party of adventurers navigating a grid-based, first-person dungeon. Your primary goal is to explore each floor, defeat monsters, and ultimately conquer the dungeon's boss. Movement and nearly every action, including combat, are determined by rolling dice; you allocate dice results to move spaces, attack enemies, or use special skills. The game unfolds screen by screen, with random encounters shifting the view to a separate battle display where you assign dice rolls to target different foes. The pacing is deliberate, as a bad roll can leave you vulnerable or unable to act, and the difficulty can feel punishing due to this inherent randomness. It feels like a board game come to life, where your success hinges on luck as much as your tactical choices.
