About Street Racer (japan)
Street Racer for the Game Boy was a Japan only release, a portable version of the 16 bit console game. It came out during a time when developers were trying to translate the feel of faster, more complex racing games onto the handheld's limited screen.
You control a driver in a small, cartoonish car, racing against a pack of opponents on tracks viewed from above. The main goal is to finish in first place across a series of cups. Your car has a turbo boost for short bursts of speed, and you can collect power ups that let you shoot projectiles at other racers or drop hazards on the track. The races are quick and the computer opponents are aggressive, often bumping you into walls. It feels like a chaotic, condensed arcade experience where you are constantly reacting to the traffic around you.
