I picked up Starshot - Space Circus Fever when it came out for the Nintendo 64 in 1998. It was published by Infogrames, a company that put out a lot of interesting, sometimes quirky titles for the system. You control Starshot, an acrobat from a space circus, and your main goal is to rescue your fellow performers who have been scattered across different planets. The gameplay involves navigating a series of contained, screen-by-screen levels. Your primary tools are a boomerang for attacking enemies and a pair of spring-loaded legs for making high jumps. A lot of the challenge comes from precision platforming, like timing your bounces on trampolines or carefully crossing narrow beams. The pacing can feel a bit stop-and-start as you figure out the specific sequence of actions needed to clear each screen. It feels like a puzzle box disguised as a platformer, where every new area presents a fresh set of physical problems to solve.
