About Stargate
I picked up Stargate on Game Boy back in 1999, a time when licensed games were a common sight on the handheld. It was published by Acclaim Entertainment, and it felt like a part of that wave of action games trying to capture a movie's adventure in a small cartridge. You control Colonel Jack O'Neil, tasked with securing the Stargate from enemy forces.
You move O'Neil screen by screen through military complexes and alien worlds, shooting enemy soldiers and creatures with your rifle. The main goal is to find keycards to unlock doors and ultimately recover the Stargate itself. You explore different rooms, fight off enemies that respawn when you leave and re-enter a screen, and collect various weapon power-ups to increase your firepower. The game can be challenging due to the constant enemy respawns and limited continues. It feels like a straightforward, sometimes repetitive run-and-gun mission from that era.
