Star Wars: Shutsugeki! Rogue Chuutai is one of those N64 gems that flew under the radar outside Japan. You jump straight into the cockpit of an X-wing (or TIE fighter, if you're feeling spicy) and dive into chaotic dogfights that actually feel like being in a Star Wars battle—lasers everywhere, ships exploding, that classic N64-era engine roar in the background.
The controls take a minute to get used to—this isn’t your modern, polished flight sim—but once it clicks, weaving through asteroid fields or pulling off a tight spin to shake a tail is weirdly satisfying. Missions mix straight-up dogfights with objective-based stuff, like protecting transports or taking out a Star Destroyer’s weak points. And yeah, the graphics are blocky by today’s standards, but there’s charm in those chunky explosions and low-poly Star Destroyers.
If you’ve ever wanted to relive that classic N64 era with a Star Wars twist, this one’s a solid time capsule. Just don’t expect Rogue Squadron levels of polish.
