Man, Shadows of the Empire on N64 was such a weird, ambitious mess—and I mean that in the best way. You start off blasting stormtroopers in third-person on Hoth (that snowspeeder level still holds up), then suddenly you're doing janky platforming as Dash Rendar in an asteroid base. The controls take some getting used to—N64 analog stick and all—but once it clicks, that sewer level with the dianoga actually gets kinda tense.
Then there's the Outrider space battles, which feel like a rougher version of Rogue Squadron. The graphics were blocky even back then, but flying through those Star Destroyer tunnels? Pure childhood adrenaline. It's got that classic late-90s LucasArts jank where one minute you're sniping probe droids, the next you're awkwardly jumping across pipes while IG-88 shoots at you. Somehow it all works because it's Star Wars through and through—wookiee growls, blaster sounds, even that weird synth rendition of the theme in the menus.
Still can't believe they crammed this much variety into one cartridge. Just don't expect it to hold your hand.
