Star Voyager on NES is one of those early space shooters that feels a little janky at first—your ship drifts like it’s on ice, and enemies come at you from all angles. But once you get the hang of it, there’s something weirdly satisfying about weaving through asteroid fields while blasting alien ships with that tinny NES laser sound.
Controls take a second to adjust to (Z and X for firing, arrows for movement), but after a few crashes into space debris, you start nailing those tight turns. The starfield background gives it that classic arcade vibe, even if the graphics are about as basic as it gets. Not gonna lie, it’s tough—one hit and you’re done—but that just makes clearing a screen of enemies way more rewarding.
If you’re into retro games that don’t hold your hand, this one’s a neat little time capsule from 1986.
