Star Trek : Generations Game

Okay, so Star Trek: Generations on Game Boy is one of those licensed games that actually tries to do something interesting. You start off choosing between Kirk or Picard (obviously I went Picard first), and then it throws you into this mix of top-down ship navigation and first-person away missions. The pixel art for the Enterprise is weirdly charming, and the little beeps that pass for phaser sounds? Classic Game Boy jank.
It’s not perfect—some of the planet exploration bits drag, and the combat’s a little clunky—but there’s something about negotiating with Klingons in 8-bit that just works. Also, the warp speed effect is just a bunch of flashing stars, but hey, it was 1994. If you’ve got a soft spot for Trek or old handheld games, this one’s a fun time capsule.
Just don’t expect Deep Space Nine levels of storytelling.
