Star Trek Generations on Game Boy is one of those weird little licensed games that somehow works. You start off with a choice between Kirk or Picard (obviously I went Picard first), and then it's this mix of top-down exploration and turn-based ship battles. The pixel art's surprisingly decent for a Game Boy title—the Enterprise actually looks like the Enterprise, and those phaser sound effects are oddly satisfying.

Combat's simple but not brainless—you've got to manage shields, weapons, and positioning, which feels just tactical enough without overcomplicating things. The away missions are janky in that classic 90s handheld way, but there's charm in beaming down to some blocky alien planet and trying not to get wrecked by equally blocky enemies.

It's definitely a product of its time, but if you're into retro Trek or just curious about oddball Game Boy adaptations, this one's more fun than it has any right to be.
