I picked up Star Trek: 25th Anniversary for the Game Boy back in 1992, a release from Interplay Entertainment. It was a time when getting a licensed game that actually tried to capture the spirit of the show felt like a small victory. This was one of a few different games made for the anniversary, and having it on a handheld was its own kind of novelty.

You take command of the Enterprise, managing the ship from a top down view on the strategic map. The core of the game involves navigating screen by screen, solving puzzles on away missions, and engaging in ship to ship combat. You talk to characters to get information, use your tricorder to scan objects, and sometimes have to think your way through a situation rather than fight. The combat segments, both on the ground and in space, can be quite difficult and require quick reflexes. Progress feels deliberate, as you piece together solutions from the clues you find. It feels like you are genuinely responsible for the ship and its crew, making each successful mission a relief.
