About Star Sweep
Star Sweep was released for the Game Boy in 1997 by Bandai. It arrived during a period when puzzle games were a staple on the handheld, offering a different kind of spatial challenge compared to falling block titles. You don't just stack pieces here; you manage an entire board that scrolls upward, pushing everything toward a deadline.
You control a cursor to pick up and place polyomino blocks, clearing them by forming complete horizontal lines. The main objective is to prevent the playfield from filling up as new rows constantly rise from the bottom. Key mechanics include a hold function to save a block for later and a garbage meter that fills as you clear lines, eventually letting you send mess to an opponent in two-player mode. The pace is relentless, demanding quick decisions as the board gets tighter. It feels like a constant race against the rising tide, where a single misplaced piece can quickly lead to a collapse.
