Square No Tom Sawyer is this weird little NES RPG that takes Mark Twain’s classic and turns it into a treasure hunt. You play as Tom, obviously, but you also get Huck Finn and Becky tagging along—basically a ragtag crew of kids trying to outsmart the creepy Injun Joe and find his hidden loot.
It’s got that old-school Square charm, with turn-based battles against stuff like stray dogs and random townsfolk (yeah, really). The overworld’s small but packed with little secrets, and the music’s surprisingly catchy for an obscure title. Not gonna lie, the translation’s rough if you’re playing the Japanese version, but the gameplay’s straightforward enough to figure out.
If you dig quirky retro RPGs with a weird premise, this one’s a fun time—just don’t expect deep storytelling beyond “kids vs. cartoonish villain.”
