Spy Hunter on NES is one of those classic arcade-style car chases where you're speeding down a highway in a tricked-out spy vehicle, taking out enemy cars with machine guns and oil slicks. The controls feel a little stiff at first—took me a minute to get used to drifting around corners—but once you get the hang of it, weaving through traffic while dodging bullets is weirdly satisfying.
You start off with just basic weapons, but pretty soon you can upgrade to smoke screens and even a boat mode (yeah, your car turns into a speedboat when you hit water). The music’s that same relentless synth track from the arcade version, which either gets you pumped or drives you nuts after a while. Either way, it’s pure 80s action.
Pro tip: Don’t ignore the weapon van—drive into it to swap your loadout. I kept missing it at first and wondered why I was stuck with pea-shooter bullets.
