About Spot
I first played Spot on my Game Boy in 1990, a puzzle game published by Virgin Games. It was part of that early wave of portable titles, the kind you'd swap with friends on the school bus. The game stood out because it was based on the 7 Up mascot, which felt like a strange but fun bit of corporate crossover for the time.
You control Spot, a red dot, navigating through grid based levels. The main goal is simple: move from the start to the exit on each single screen stage. Your primary tool is a set of directional arrows you place on the grid; these dictate Spot's path, and one wrong move sends him walking off the edge. The challenge comes from planning these routes in advance, often while avoiding obstacles or navigating around gaps. The game starts gently but the puzzles get quite devious, demanding careful thought before you commit to a move. It feels satisfying to finally see your planned path work perfectly after a few failed attempts.
