About Spot - The Video Game (japan)
Spot came out for the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1990, published by Virgin Games. It was one of those late-era NES titles that tried something a bit different, a video game adaptation of a board game called Ataxx, all wrapped in 7-Up branding. You don't see many soda-themed puzzle games, so it always stood out on the shelf.
You control a single, smiling Spot piece on a grid, moving it one square at a time to conquer the board. Your main goal is to turn all the tiles to your color by jumping to an adjacent empty space or by converting enemy pieces next to you. The core mechanics are simple: you move, and any opposing pieces surrounding your new position flip to your side. The game gets tricky as the board fills up, forcing you to plan your jumps carefully to avoid getting trapped. It's a quiet, thoughtful kind of challenge that feels satisfying when you outmaneuver the opponent and watch the whole screen change to your color.
