About Splatter House - Wanpaku Graffiti
I first played Splatter House: Wanpaku Graffiti on the NES back in 1989. It was a Namco release, a strange little spinoff that took the grisly arcade original and turned it into a parody. On a console filled with cute platformers, this one stood out for its horror theme, even if it was played for laughs.
You control a boy named Rick, who explores a haunted mansion screen by screen. Your main goal is to rescue your girlfriend from the monsters inside. You punch and kick enemies, but you also find weapons like a wooden sword and a bow to fight from a distance. The game is a side-scroller with some light exploration, and the pacing is quick, though the difficulty can spike unexpectedly. It feels like a brisk, slightly chaotic run through a cartoon nightmare.
