Spirit of F-1 is one of those early Game Boy racers that feels janky at first but weirdly grows on you. The cars look like tiny rectangles with wheels, and the tracks are basic loops, but there's something satisfying about nailing the awkward drifting around tight corners. You'll spend the first few races figuring out how not to spin out every five seconds—turns out tapping the d-pad works better than holding it down.

It's definitely not a looker, even by Game Boy standards, but the chiptune engine noises and the way your little car bounces off barriers give it this weird charm. I kept going back just to shave half a second off my lap times. If you're into retro racing games with rough edges, this one's a surprisingly fun time-waster.
