Spartan X came out for the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1984, developed by Irem. It was one of the earlier titles on the console, a time when many games were straightforward action challenges without much story. You could tell it was from that era just by looking at the simple, blocky graphics and hearing the basic but catchy music.

You control a martial artist who must rescue a kidnapped woman from a multi-story building. The game is broken into side scrolling beat 'em up sections and first person maze exploration. You punch and kick your way through waves of thugs in the side scrolling parts, then navigate a confusing maze from a first person view to find the exit to the next floor. The main objective is to fight to the top of the building, floor by floor, before your timer runs out. The pacing is relentless, and the difficulty is high, especially with the disorienting maze sections. Playing it feels like a constant race against the clock, where a single wrong turn can mean starting all over again.
