Space Invaders came to the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1985, a conversion of Taito's arcade hit. It was one of the many straightforward arcade ports that helped define the early NES library, a familiar sight for anyone with a console in that era.

You control a lone laser cannon, sliding it left and right along the bottom of the screen. Your objective is simple: destroy every one of the aliens marching back and forth above before they manage to land or shoot you down. The aliens descend slowly at first, but their pace quickens with each one you eliminate, creating a steady rise in tension. You also have four stationary bunkers for cover, though they gradually erode from both your shots and enemy fire. Dodging the aliens' relentless, descending laser patterns while picking them off one by one feels like a desperate, focused race against time.
