About Space Harrier (japan)
Space Harrier on the NES was published by Sega in Japan, a home conversion of their arcade game. It arrived on a console where many developers were still figuring out how to translate fast, sprite-scaling action into a playable form.
You control the Harrier, a running and flying character who shoots a constant stream of fire at everything in front of him. The objective is simply to survive each stage, a forced-scroll journey across a checkerboard landscape filled with trees, rocks, and an onslaught of enemies. Your signature moves are a rapid dash for quick lateral dodges and the ability to jump or fly to avoid ground obstacles and target airborne foes. The pacing is relentless; you are constantly reading the distance of incoming objects and reacting instantly. It feels like a frantic dance on a grid, a test of pure reflex where a single mistake often ends the run.
