I picked up Soreyuke! Speedy Gonzales on the Game Boy back in 1995, a Japan-only release from Sunsoft. It was one of those many platformers that filled the handheld's library, a time when licensed games based on cartoons were common. This one stood out simply because it was Speedy Gonzales, the fastest mouse in all of Mexico, and you don't see him starring in games too often.

You control Speedy through a series of side-scrolling stages, and your main goal is to rescue your mouse friends who are trapped in cages. The core of the game is navigating these single-screen areas; you run and jump across platforms, avoiding enemies like cats and eagles. Your primary move is a quick dash attack to stun foes, and you collect cheese wedges scattered everywhere for points. The pacing is fast, as you'd expect with Speedy, but the levels can be surprisingly tricky with their enemy placement and jumps. It feels like a frantic scramble to save everyone before time runs out.
