About Solomon's Key 2 (europe)
Solomon's Key 2 came out in 1992 for the NES, published by Tecmo. It was known as Fire and Ice in Europe, a follow up to the first Solomon's Key. This was during a time when the NES library was deep with puzzle platformers, and this one aimed to carve its own space.
You control Dana, a young wizard, navigating through side scrolling levels. Your main goal is to rescue the fairy Titania from the demon Morbia. You explore screen by screen, using your staff to create and destroy ice blocks. This block manipulation is central; you build platforms to reach higher areas, create barriers against enemies, and sometimes use the blocks to crush foes. The game is methodical, requiring you to stop and plan your next move carefully. It is not a fast action game, but a thoughtful one where a single wrong block can trap you. The difficulty is consistent, asking for precise execution of your plans. Moving through its icy, hazard filled rooms feels like solving a series of intricate, interactive puzzles.
