I picked up Solomon's Club for my Game Boy back in 1991, a time when portable games were mostly simple time-killers. Tecmo published it, and it felt like a natural part of that early handheld library, a puzzle-action hybrid that didn't try to be more than it was. It was a direct follow-up to Solomon's Key, carrying on that tradition of methodical problem-solving in a compact format.

You control a wizard navigating through single-screen rooms, each one a self-contained puzzle. Your main goal is to find the key in each stage and reach the exit, but getting there is the real challenge. You can create and destroy blocks to build platforms or block enemy paths; this is your primary tool for manipulating the environment. Combat is straightforward, using a simple projectile attack to dispatch the various monsters that patrol the area. The pacing is deliberate, often requiring you to stop and plan your next few moves carefully, as a single wrong block placement can leave you trapped. It feels like a constant, quiet battle of wits against the level design itself.
