About Solomon's Club
Solomon's Club came out for the Game Boy in 1991, developed by Tecmo. It was part of that wave of early handheld games trying to offer a substantial adventure on a small screen. You would see it alongside other action puzzlers, a cartridge you'd swap in when you wanted something more involved than a quick arcade port.
You control a young boy exploring a large, interconnected castle. Your main goal is to find the pieces of Solomon's Club and reassemble it. The gameplay is methodical; you move screen by screen, using a sword to fight monsters and a bow to hit switches from a distance. You push blocks to solve puzzles and uncover hidden passages, and you collect keys to unlock the many doors barring your progress. The difficulty is consistent, demanding careful observation of each room's layout. It feels like a slow, thoughtful crawl through a dangerous place where every new screen requires a plan.
