Okay, so Soccer Mania on the Game Boy—it's exactly what it sounds like, but also not? Like, yeah, it's soccer, but the sprites are tiny and kinda janky in that classic early-90s handheld way. You pick from a handful of national teams (Japan and USA are in the title, but there are a few others), and then it's just straight into a match. No frills, no career mode—just you, the ball, and some very questionable AI.
First time I booted it up, I accidentally scored on myself because the controls take a second to get used to. Passing feels weirdly stiff, but once you get the hang of it, there’s something oddly satisfying about chipping the ball past a defender with those little pixelated dudes. Don’t expect FIFA, but if you’re into retro sports games, it’s a fun little time capsule.
