Smash T.V. came out for the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1990, published by Williams Electronics. It was a time when arcade style action games were common on the NES, and this one was a direct translation of a cabinet I had seen before. You got a game that was pure, fast paced chaos right from the start.

You control a contestant fighting through a deadly game show, moving from one single screen arena to the next. Your main goal is to survive the waves of enemies and bosses to win the prizes, which are often absurd things like toasters and VCRs. The signature mechanics are your ability to shoot in any direction independently of your movement and the constant, overwhelming number of foes that flood the screen. The pacing is relentless; you are almost always surrounded, and the difficulty spikes quickly. It feels like a frantic scramble for survival where one wrong move ends your run.
