Slalom is one of those early NES games that looks simple but gets surprisingly intense. You're just trying to ski down the mountain as fast as possible, dodging snowmen and other skiers—but the controls feel weirdly slippery at first. Took me a few runs to stop faceplanting into every obstacle.
Weirdly, hitting bumps isn't always bad—if you press down right after, you get these goofy little freestyle jumps that rack up bonus points. The timer's always breathing down your neck though, so you can't mess around too much.
Fun bit of trivia: this was Rare's first NES game before they blew up with stuff like Donkey Kong Country and Goldeneye. You can kinda see their style starting here, even if it's way more basic than what came later. Still holds up if you're into old-school racing games with that "just one more try" vibe.
