About Slalom
Slalom came out for the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1987, developed and published by Nintendo themselves. It was part of that early wave of NES sports titles, a straightforward skiing game that didn't try to do too much.
You control a lone skier from a top-down perspective, guiding him down a series of slalom courses. Your main objective is to simply make it to the finish line before the timer expires. The core mechanics involve weaving between the red and blue flags; missing a gate slows you down significantly. You also have to dodge various obstacles like other skiers, snowmen, and patches of rough snow. If you hit a mogul, you can press down on the D-pad to perform a freestyle jump for bonus points. The game starts deceptively simple but the courses get quite narrow and crowded, demanding quick reflexes. It feels like a constant, frantic dance between maintaining your speed and avoiding a crash.
