About Skull & Crossbones (unl)
Skull & Crossbones is an unlicensed Nintendo Entertainment System game from 1990, developed and published by Tengen. It arrived during a period when the NES library was crowded with action titles, and this one stood out for its pirate theme and cooperative play option.
You control either One Eye or Red Dog, two pirates who fight through side scrolling stages filled with other pirates, ninjas, and undead enemies. Your main goal is to rescue a kidnapped princess and ultimately defeat an evil wizard. The game uses a simple sword fighting mechanic; you can swing your cutlass and also throw daggers as a limited ranged attack. Stages are linear but often require careful platforming over pits and navigating enemy placements. The pacing is fast and the difficulty is quite high, with enemies respawning quickly and limited continues. Playing it feels like a relentless scramble through a chaotic pirate brawl.
