Skate or Die: Bad 'N Rad is one of those weird little Game Boy gems that somehow makes skateboarding feel like a fever dream. You start off with this tiny pixelated dude grinding rails and jumping gaps in side-scrolling sections, then suddenly the camera shifts to this awkward top-down view where you're dodging traffic and hopping fences. It shouldn't work, but there's something oddly satisfying about landing a perfect run.
The controls take a minute to get used to—your skater handles like he's on ice at first—but once it clicks, you'll be pulling off ridiculous stunts past angry dogs and random construction workers trying to clothesline you. The soundtrack's got that classic Game Boy bleep-bloop energy too, all crunchy basslines and tinny percussion. It's janky, it's unpredictable, and somehow that's exactly why I keep coming back to it.
Just don't expect anything realistic—this is pure arcade-style chaos with a side of late '80s attitude.
