About Silkworm
Silkworm came out for the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1988, developed and published by Tecmo. It was part of that era on the NES where developers were experimenting with different takes on the shoot 'em up genre, offering a more grounded military theme compared to the spaceships and aliens common at the time.
You control either a helicopter or a jeep, working your way from left to right across scrolling battlefields. The main objective is straightforward: destroy everything in your path to reach the end of each stage. The helicopter flies, firing forward and dropping bombs downward, while the jeep stays on the ground, its shots limited to a forward arc. This two character choice is the game's central mechanic, allowing for different approaches to the same levels; you can tackle obstacles from the air or confront them head on from the ground. The pacing is relentless, with enemy vehicles, soldiers, and turrets spawning constantly, demanding quick reflexes and constant firing. It feels like a tense, chaotic assault where survival depends on memorizing enemy patterns and managing your limited firepower.
