About Side Pocket
Side Pocket on the Game Boy came out in 1990 from Data East. It was part of that early wave of portable games where developers tried to fit big arcade experiences onto the small screen. You got a complete pool simulation in your hands, which felt like a small victory at the time.
You control a cue stick, aiming and setting power for each shot across a series of pool tables. The main goal is to clear all the balls from the table, screen by screen, to advance. Key mechanics include a precise aiming guide and a power meter you have to stop manually for each shot; missing a pocket often means the opponent gets a turn, adding tension. The game moves at a deliberate pace, and the later tables demand real accuracy. It feels like a quiet, focused test of your patience and skill.
