About Side Pocket (japan)
Side Pocket came out for the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1987, developed and published by Data East. It was one of the few dedicated pool games on the system, offering a straightforward simulation of the sport during a time when many NES titles were action platformers or RPGs.
You control a cue stick, positioning it around the table to line up shots. The main goal is to clear each table by pocketing all the balls, moving from one screen to the next as you complete them. Two key mechanics define the play: you adjust the power of your shot with a meter, and you can apply spin to the cue ball to control its path after impact. The game starts simply but the tables get more complex, demanding careful planning for caroms and combinations. It feels like a thoughtful, almost meditative challenge where every shot requires your full attention.
