About Shounen Ashibe - Yuuenchi Panic (japan)

I picked up Shounen Ashibe: Yuuenchi Panic for the Game Boy a while back, a Japan-only release from 1992 by Yonezawa PR21. It's one of those many licensed titles that filled out the Game Boy's library, based on a manga about a little boy and his pet sea lion. You don't see many people talking about it now, which is a shame because it has a certain quirky charm that was common for the era.

You control the boy, Ashibe, navigating through a large, multi-screen amusement park. Your main goal is to find your lost sea lion, Goma-chan, who has wandered off somewhere in the park. The gameplay involves moving screen by screen, talking to the various park visitors to get hints about Goma-chan's whereabouts. A key mechanic is that you can't just run around freely; you need to collect tickets scattered around the park to pay for entry to different themed areas, like the haunted house or the pirate ship. The pacing is slow and deliberate, more about exploration and simple puzzle-solving than action. It feels like a calm, methodical scavenger hunt from a simpler time.
