Shin SD Gundam Gaiden is one of those weird little Game Boy gems that slipped under the radar. It's a turn-based RPG where you control a squad of chibi Knight Gundams—basically medieval armored knights with Gundam names and designs. The sprites are tiny but surprisingly detailed for a Game Boy game, and the combat feels like a stripped-down Fire Emblem with simpler mechanics.
At first, I thought it was just a reskin of some generic strategy game, but there’s actually some charm here. You move your units on grid maps, whacking enemy robots with swords and lances. The knight classes matter more than you’d think—archers wreck fliers, and paladins can take way more hits than scouts. It’s not super deep, but it’s satisfying in that old-school, "one more battle" kind of way.
Oh, and the music? Surprisingly good for a Game Boy soundtrack. That tinny little system pumps out some legit medieval-sounding tunes. If you’re into obscure Gundam spin-offs or just want a quick tactical fix, this one’s worth a look.
