About Shanghai
Shanghai came out for the Game Boy in 1989, published by Activision. It was one of the many puzzle games that found a comfortable home on Nintendo's handheld, a title you could pick up and play in short bursts. It didn't try to be an epic adventure; it was just a solid, portable version of a familiar tile matching game.
You control a cursor to select and remove matching pairs of tiles from a board arranged in the shape of a dragon or other patterns. The main objective is to clear the entire board. The key mechanics involve finding pairs of identical tiles that are free, meaning they are not covered by another tile and have at least one side open. You must plan your moves carefully, as removing the wrong pair can block your progress later. The game starts calmly but becomes more demanding as the board gets thinner and your options narrow. It feels like quietly untangling a knot, one thoughtful piece at a time.
