About Shanghai 2 (japan)
Shanghai 2 was released for the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1990 by Sunsoft. It arrived late in the NES lifecycle, a time when developers were still finding new ways to use the hardware. This game is a sequel to the original tile matching puzzle, offering a more structured and challenging experience than many other puzzle titles from that period.
You control a cursor to select matching pairs of mahjong tiles from a layered layout. The main objective is to clear the entire board by removing all tile pairs. Its signature mechanics involve careful planning, as you can only select tiles that are free on at least one side, and you must often clear upper layers to access those below. The game also introduces special tile sets and more complex patterns than its predecessor, increasing the difficulty as you progress. It feels like a quiet, methodical test of your observation and foresight.
