Shadow of the Empire on N64 was one of those games that made you feel like you were actually in a Star Wars movie—even if the graphics are rough by today’s standards. You start off on Hoth, blasting snowspeeders and dodging AT-ATs, and it somehow nails that chaotic battle vibe. Then suddenly you’re in a sewer fighting a giant dianoga, or flying through Beggar’s Canyon like some kind of T-16 hotshot.
The controls take some getting used to (especially the jetpack sections), but once it clicks, you’re flipping around with a blaster in one hand and a lightsaber in the other. The IG-88 boss fight still gives me flashbacks—dude’s relentless. And that soundtrack? Pure John Williams magic, even with the N64’s weird MIDI sound.
It’s janky in places, but there’s something about the way it throws you into these massive set pieces that just works. You’ll either love it or rage-quit during the train level.
