Shadow Man on N64 is one of those weird, moody gems that sticks with you. You play as Mike LeRoi, a voodoo warrior who can hop between the living world and the deadlands—which sounds cool until you realize the deadlands are full of screaming souls and gnarled, gothic architecture. The combat’s a bit clunky (this is an N64 game), but the atmosphere? Unmatched. One minute you’re creeping through a swamp with eerie whispers in the background, the next you’re blasting demons with a shotgun that somehow feels too satisfying for a horror game.
It’s got puzzles, but they’re the kind where you’ll backtrack for hours if you miss one obscure item—classic late-’90s design. The story’s surprisingly deep for an N64 title, though, with this grim, almost poetic vibe. Not for everyone, but if you like your action games with a side of existential dread, it’s worth digging up.
