Shadow Man on the N64 is one of those weird, moody late-90s gems that somehow slipped under the radar. You play as this voodoo-powered antihero who basically moonlights as the grim reaper, jumping between the living world and the deadlands to stop some seriously messed-up demons from causing the apocalypse.
The first thing that hits you is the atmosphere—dimly lit swamps, creepy asylums, and this constant low hum of dread in the soundtrack. Combat’s a bit clunky by today’s standards (hey, it’s the N64), but there’s something satisfying about blasting zombies with a shotgun while your shadow powers recharge. And the puzzles? Some are legit head-scratchers—I remember getting stuck for ages in one sewer level because I missed a single lever hidden in the dark.
It’s not perfect, but if you’re into horror-adventure games with a weird, grimy charm, Shadow Man’s worth dusting off the N64 for. Just maybe play it with the lights on.
