About Sekiryuuou (japan)
Sekiryuuou came out in 1989 for the Nintendo Entertainment System, developed by TOSE. It was part of that wave of late 80s action games that tried to blend different genres, a time when developers were experimenting with the console's capabilities. You don't hear much about it compared to other titles from that year, which gives it a certain obscurity.
You control a warrior navigating a large map screen by screen, fighting monsters with a sword and a bow. The main goal is to explore dungeons and collect pieces of a sacred statue to restore it. A key mechanic is the ability to switch between your weapons on the fly, which is necessary as some enemies are only vulnerable to specific attacks. The game is methodical; you clear one room of enemies before moving to the next, and the difficulty is persistent, demanding careful movement and resource management. Playing it feels like a deliberate, sometimes punishing, test of your patience and skill.
