About Sanrio Cup - Pon Pon Volley (japan)
Sanrio Cup - Pon Pon Volley came out for the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1988, published by Atlus. It was one of many sports titles on the NES, but it stood out because it featured Sanrio's cast of characters, which gave it a different look and feel from the more standard volleyball games of the time.
You control a team of Sanrio characters in a two-on-two volleyball match. The main objective is to win each set by scoring more points than the opposing team. The gameplay involves serving the ball, bumping it to your partner, and then spiking it over the net. Two signature mechanics are the ability to perform a powerful super spike after building up momentum and the way your character's special meter fills, allowing for stronger attacks. The pacing is fast, and the computer opponents can be surprisingly difficult, requiring quick reflexes to return their spikes. It feels like a frantic back-and-forth where a single mistimed jump can cost you the match.
