About San Francisco Rush - Extreme Racing
San Francisco Rush: Extreme Racing came out for the Nintendo 64 in 1997, developed by Atari Games. It was part of that wave of 3D racers that tried to capture the feel of arcade cabinets at home, and it stood out for its sense of speed and the freedom it gave you on the track.
You control a high performance car, and your goal is to finish first in a series of races set on San Francisco's streets. The signature mechanics are the huge, multi-level tracks filled with hidden shortcuts and the ability to perform massive jumps and stunts. You can often leave the main road entirely, flying over buildings or finding secret passages that shave seconds off your lap time. The pacing is frantic, and the difficulty comes from managing your speed on these chaotic courses while the other drivers jostle for position. It feels like you are constantly pushing the car to its absolute limit, barely in control as you hurtle through the city.
