About San Francisco Rush - Extreme Racing (e)
San Francisco Rush: Extreme Racing came out for the Nintendo 64 in 1997, developed by Atari Games. It was part of that wave of 3D racers that really showed off what the N64 could do, landing right in the middle of the console's life. You got a solid arcade racing experience without the extra fluff that some other games were starting to pile on.
You control a selection of high speed cars, aiming to finish first across a series of urban tracks modeled after San Francisco. The main objective is straightforward: win the race. Its signature mechanics include the generous use of shortcuts, often hidden down alleys or accessed by huge jumps, and a physics system that lets you perform wild, spinning crashes into other cars and scenery. The game moves at a breakneck pace, and the learning curve is steep as you memorize the best routes and manage your speed on the tight, hilly streets. It feels like a controlled slide through a chaotic, three-dimensional playground.
