About Salamander (japan)
Salamander came out for the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1987, developed and published by Konami. It was part of that wave of side-scrolling shooters on the NES, a time when developers were pushing the hardware to handle fast action and detailed sprites.
You pilot the Vic Viper starship through six stages, alternating between horizontal and vertical scrolling. Your main goal is to survive the onslaught and destroy the core of each stage's boss. You collect power-up capsules to upgrade your ship with options, speed boosts, and different weapon types like lasers and missiles. The game is known for its cooperative two-player mode and its branching paths in certain levels, offering a slight change of scenery on repeat attempts. It moves at a relentless pace, and the difficulty is unforgiving, demanding precise dodging through dense enemy formations and intricate cave systems. Navigating the tight corridors while managing your power-ups creates a tense, focused experience.
