SS Spinner is one of those Game Boy games that looks simple at first—just spinning a little ship around the screen—but man, it gets intense fast. You start off dodging slow-moving blocks, thinking "Okay, this is chill," and then suddenly everything’s coming at you from all angles. The controls are tight, though, so when you wipe out, it’s totally on you.

There’s something weirdly satisfying about grabbing those power-ups mid-spin, especially the one that slows everything down for a second. I kept going back to beat my high score, even though the later levels made me want to throw my Game Boy across the room a few times. Classic 90s frustration in the best way.

If you’ve got a soft spot for retro games that don’t hold your hand, this one’s a solid time capsule.
