SD Sengokuden 3 is one of those weird little Game Boy gems where feudal Japan gets the super-deformed (SD) chibi treatment. You’ve got warlords and samurai, but they’re all tiny, round, and oddly adorable—like someone took the Sengoku period and ran it through a kawaii filter.
Gameplay’s a mix of turn-based strategy and light RPG elements. At first, it feels simple—move your little army, clash with enemies—but there’s some sneaky depth in unit placement and terrain. I remember getting wrecked early because I just charged in without thinking. Turns out, spearmen on hills have a real advantage over sword guys in the open. Who knew?
It’s Japan-only, so unless you read kanji, expect some menu squinting. Still, the sprites are charming, and the music’s got that classic Game Boy chiptune energy. If you dig retro strategy with a side of historical silliness, this one’s worth a look.
