About Rollerball (japan)
Rollerball was released for the Nintendo Entertainment System by HAL Laboratory, the same developer behind early NES titles like Adventures of Lolo. It arrived as part of a wave of games that tried to translate arcade and real world concepts onto the home console, in this case attempting to capture the feel of a pinball machine.
You control the flippers at the bottom of an unusually long, vertically scrolling table themed after New York City. The main objective is simply to keep the ball in play, racking up points by hitting bumpers, spinners, and targets while navigating the table's various ramps and lanes. The game's signature mechanics include the continuous vertical scrolling, which forces you to constantly adjust to new sections of the table, and the risk of draining your ball if you fail to react quickly to its descent. The pace is relentless and the physics can feel unforgiving, making for a challenging experience. It feels like a constant, frantic scramble to keep up with the ball's unpredictable path.
