Ever wanted to strap on a jetpack and just go? The Rocketeer on NES kinda lets you do that—minus the whole "crashing into trees" part. It's based on the movie, so you're basically this 1930s stunt pilot with a stolen rocket pack, dodging gangsters and Nazis (because of course there are Nazis).
At first, it feels like a standard side-scroller—run, jump, shoot the occasional bad guy—but then you hit the jetpack button and suddenly you're zipping around like a drunk bumblebee. The controls take some getting used to, especially when you're trying not to faceplant into buildings mid-flight. Some levels ditch the pack entirely, forcing you to sneak or brawl your way through, which honestly feels like the game just took your favorite toy away.
It's got that classic NES charm—pixelated explosions, weirdly catchy chiptune music, and enemies who apparently didn't get the memo that bullets hurt. Not the deepest game out there, but there's something weirdly satisfying about buzzing over rooftops while mobsters shoot at you from below. Just don't expect the jetpack to save you from cheap hits—this is still an NES game, after all.
